Role Summary
We are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and detail-oriented volunteer to support our Finance & Business Support Department with a range of administrative and finance-related tasks. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience within a busy charity environment while contributing to the important work of Improving Lives Plymouth. The volunteer will assist with maintaining accurate records, supporting data entry, and providing general administrative support to the finance team. Full training, guidance and ongoing support will be provided. The role is designed to help individuals develop confidence, skills, and experience in finance and administration while making a valuable contribution to the organisation.
Main Tasks
- Supporting the Finance Team with general administrative duties.
- Scanning and electronically archiving financial documents.
- Assisting with data entry and maintaining accurate records.
- Updating and maintaining spreadsheets and financial logs.
- Supporting petty cash administration and reconciliation processes.
- Assisting with purchase order administration.
- Helping to prepare paperwork for audits and compliance reviews.
- Reviewing documentation to ensure records are complete and correctly archived.
- Providing ad hoc administrative support to the wider Finance & Business Support Team.
Skills and Qualities Required
Essential
- Good attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
- Reliable and dependable approach to tasks.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Desirable
- An interest in finance, bookkeeping or administration.
- Previous office, volunteering or administrative experience.
- Experience using spreadsheets or databases.
- Experience working in a charity or community setting.
No formal finance qualifications are required. We are looking for enthusiasm, commitment, reliability and a willingness to learn.

Training and Support
- A full induction to Improving Lives Plymouth.
- Role-specific training and guidance.

Expectations of the Volunteer
- Act in a professional and respectful manner.
- Maintain confidentiality at all times.
- Follow ILP policies and procedures, including Safeguarding, Health & Safety, GDPR and Equality & Diversity requirements.
- Communicate any absences or difficulties as early as possible.
- Attend agreed training and support meetings where appropriate.
